POWERLIGHT - PowerLight Technologies has reached a defining milestone in wireless power transmission: successfully delivering power via laser to a fielded military unmanned aerial system (UAS) while in flight—an industry first that moves power beaming from concept to operational reality.

This achievement marks a critical step forward in the evolution of persistent airborne operations. By enabling real-time energy delivery to aircraft in flight, PowerLight’s technology addresses one of the most fundamental limitations of unmanned systems: the need to land for refueling or recharging.

At the core of this breakthrough is PowerLight’s advanced laser-based power beaming system, developed under the PTROL-UAS program. The system combines a high-power, autonomous transmitter with a lightweight airborne receiver, creating what can be described as a “wireless power line” in the sky, capable of delivering kilowatt-class energy over distance to sustain flight operations.
