PUGET SOUND BUSINESS JOURNAL - Seattle-area startups picked up their funding pace after a slow third quarter.

According to a new report from Seattle-based financial data firm PitchBook and the National Venture Capital Association, local startups secured $1.5 billion across 84 deals in the fourth quarter. That's up from a little over $1 billion in the third quarter but down from the first and second quarter, when local startups landed $2.2 billion and $2.3 billion, respectively.

A few major deals boosted numbers in the Seattle area recently. Kent-based reusable rocket startup Stoke Space in October raised a $510 million Series D round and a $100 million debt facility, while Kirkland-based cybersecurity startup Chainguard that same month raised $280 million. In December, Seattle-based speech-training startup Yoodli raised a $40 million Series B round.

Note:  Stoke Space is headquartered in Kent.
